Replacing Interior Window Sill
I demonstrate how to remove a rotten window sill.
Replacing interior window sill. Chop out the remaining ends of the old sill with a hammer and inch wide chisel. Not difficult to do and only ta. In this video i help out one of my subscribers and give you step by step instructions to repair a water damaged window sill.
After that place your putty knife between the wall and the trim and pry the trim away from the wall. A window sill is the bottom portion of the window and usually but not always has a lip that overhangs the trim molding and over time these can get damaged or even rot. Repeat to position a second screw at the opposite end of the sill. Nail finish nails at each back corner and along the back every 12 inches. You may also need to pry away trim material known as side casing.
Mark out the sill and decide on the wood. Re install trims on the sides of the window and under the sill. Next cut underneath the window sill to free the sill from the trim board under it.
When you can get your fingers under the sill rock it upward and downward and pull it free of the window. A technician should have a wide range of equipment needed to replace interior window sills including chisel hacksaw hammer drill jigsaw putty knife respirator and others. Next you will measure out the sill using the old sill as a template if you managed to remove it in one piece.
The first thing to do is get rid of the old sill and this can easily be done by prising it out using a hammer and crowbar. Nail a finish nail 1 2 inch from the inside window casing on each side. Pound on the sill from all directions with a rubber mallet to finish loosening the nails.
