Replacing An Interior Door Jamb
1 remove any nails or screws from the damaged area.
Replacing an interior door jamb. A finish frame has a top jamb and two side jambs that have hinges and latches to hold the door in place. In this video this old house general contractor tom silva explains how to repair a damaged doorjamb. If the knob is to the right select a right handed door.
Then slide shims into place along the space between the jamb and the wall. You can hold the jamb in place by lightly hammering in a few nails. On the hinge side start with the bottom and top of the jamb.
Some blank doors have a specific swing direction. A solid door jamb is what helps your door open and close correctly. Temporarily screw the jamb into place on the hinge side first.
The door needs to fit comfortably inside the jamb. Door jambs are not all the complicated and an interior diy door jamb is easy to make. Slip shims under the side jamb until the head jamb is level.
If the doorknob is on the left you need a left handed door. Hopefully your not here because it happened to you. Add or remove shimming so the door fits.
Once you have the replacement jamb in one piece put in into place in the door opening. The door frame should be slightly smaller than the opening it fits to allow for adjustments. Hold the door against the jamb to check for clearance.
